This panel discussion involving Pratt Professors Desiree Andrepot, Jesse Chrismer, Christopher
Cirillo, and Jerrod Delaine will focus on the increasing demand for affordable housing in our
cities. While the COVID-19 pandemic’s health concerns are the world’s main priority, we cannot
ignore the economic disaster trailing in its wake. The lack of affordable housing was already an
entrenched problem prior to the pandemic and will be exacerbated by the unprecedented levels
of unemployment and loss of income being experienced. Faced with this challenge, the NYC
DOB maintains affordable housing projects are essential construction during the pandemic. This
problem will require all hands on deck to offer solutions. By exploring the tenets of such
practices as co-living, public-private partnerships, and place-making we hope to shed light on a
healthy way for our communities to emerge from the pandemic.
