Join AIA Brooklyn for an evening with ARO founding principal, Stephen Cassell, FAIA as he walks us through their new Green-Wood Cemetery Education and Welcome Center. This LEED Gold building opened in April, and it has already earned a “New York’s Shining Moment” award from NYCxDESIGN – sure to be the first of many.
Lovingly known as the “Green-House,” the building provides a home for Green-Wood’s many programs, exhibit spaces, archives and staff while providing an ample space for tour groups and other visitors.
The red ribbed exterior provides a commanding presence from the sidewalk while a revealing unexpected transparency from the inside, setting up a rich dialogue with the adjacent, recently restored 1895 landmark greenhouse.
