ARCscholars is a non-profit educational program that teaches architecture and urban design to young adults living in NYCHA. The students are mentored by City Tech architecture students and together they study a specific campus. In the Fall of 2024, we investigated Marcy Houses 2050; focusing on the effects of climate change and population growth. The team collaborated on ideas of home, changing family structure and how to best prepare for the future. Our site, Park Avenue, or The Spine, bisects the development. The proposal would be a series of elevated structures and walkways that add and connect additional residential, new medical clinics, community learning, retail and open green spaces while promoting affordability, safety in public spaces, pedestrian and vehicular circulation, and flood management. The new Unity Avenue; would allow cars on the street and provide safe pedestrian access, thus transforming Park Avenue into a vibrant interactive place.
