INTERVIEW WITH SADIE NOONE

Q. What motivated you to choose the field of architecture?

A. I chose to study architecture because I have always been interested in art and history. Architecture engages with so many other disciplines, there is always more to learn and find exciting.

Q. What type of work are you most interested in?

A. I am interested in public projects, especially related to transportation and infrastructure.

Q. What has been your biggest challenge since obtaining your architecture degree?

A. Adjusting to a much broader scope of architectural work, rather than design exclusively.

Q. What did you like about architecture school?

A. I enjoyed creating drawings and renders through both analog and digital means, working on design research, and having the opportunity to present my work to juries composed of distinguished professionals.

Q. Any criticisms of the architecture education experience?

A. The lack of exposure to construction, contract administration as well as other trades and disciplines outside of architecture involved in construction. In the field, it becomes evident that coordination issues often result from a lack of interdisciplinary knowledge and collaboration.

Q. What are your professional goals?

A. To become a licensed architect and work on projects that improve the daily lives of others. To learn anything and everything I can.

Q. Who do you consider to be some of your favorite architects?

A. Oscar Niemeyer, Amale Andraos, Joshua Ramus, Alvaro Siza

Q. Do you have a favorite building or city?

A. My favorite building is Calatrava’s World Trade Center Transportation Hub, and my favorite landscape project is the Irish Hunger Memorial, both in New York City.

Q. What do you hope to get out of your AIA Brooklyn Chapter membership?

A. I hope to meet and learn from other professionals. I am looking forward to attending and participating in a variety of events hosted by the chapter.
