Only If is a Brooklyn-based design practice for architecture and urbanism founded in 2013 and led by Adam Frampton, AIA and Karolina Czeczek, RA. Frampton and Czeczek previously worked for OMA / Rem Koolhaas in the Netherlands and Hong Kong, and currently also teach at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and Yale University School of Architecture.
Only If’s projects span a range of different types and scales, from small interiors and cafes, to brownstone renovations and extensions, to single- and multi-family residential, to larger-scale urban planning, research, and speculation. In 2023, Only If’s proposal for the Kosciuszko Pool in Bedford-Stuyvesant was featured in the Museum of Modern Art’s “Architecture Now: New York, New Publics.” Only If’s projects have been featured in the New Yorker, the Wall Street Journal, Architectural Digest, Architectural Record, Architect, Interior Design, Frame, Domus, Vogue, Wallpaper*, Azure, and the Architect’s Newspaper, among other publications globally.
In 2023, Only If’s Narrow House received the highest recognition by the AIA Brooklyn. Only If has been also recognized as part of Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard (2022), nominated for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize (2022), named one of the best 50 architect firms in the world by Domus (2020), Architect Magazine’s Next Progressives (2019), Architect’s Newspaper AN 50 (2018, 2019), a winner of the 2018 AIANY New Practices New York, PIN-UP’s Magazine’s New Power Generation (2017), and the World Interior News’ 2016 Emerging Interior Practice of the Year.
