The AIA Brooklyn Committee on the Environment invites all those interested in learning more about Cooper Recycling’s advanced construction and demolition recycling facility in Brooklyn (1.5 AIA LU), where you will get a firsthand look at the recycling process and learn about certification, sorting, and material recovery. In addition to an introduction to NYC’s largest C&D recycling facility, you will get a guided tour through a mile-long maze of conveyor belts, screens, grinders, magnets, and sorters.
Even though the majority of construction waste is recyclable, the overall recycling rate for construction and demolition waste in NYC is estimated to be less than 50 percent. Cooper Recycling in Brooklyn is trying to maximize material recovery by using custom-engineered equipment and state-of-the-art technology.
NOTE: the ground will be slippery, the environment can be dusty and we will be climbing stairs. Anyone with asthma or difficulty walking should not come on the tour. Cooper Recycling also asks that you do not take pictures, videos or other recordings during the tour or presentation. Visitor will also be required to sign a waiver.
