AIA Brooklyn General Meeting + Presentation by Brooklyn SolarWorks

Join AIA Brooklyn at The Mercury Store in Gowanus on Wednesday, March 19 for a presentation from Brooklyn SolarWorks. The AIA Brooklyn March Chapter Meeting will follow the presentation.
Brooklyn SolarWorks will unpack the complexities of integrating solar systems into a range of New York City projects. You will earn a basic understanding of solar system design and installation as well as the importance of integrating solar solutions at design inception to maximize solar capacity without adverse impacts on other aspects of a design.
The presentation will also explore a range of installation types including canopy solutions that maximize system size and energy production. Local laws and regulations surrounding solar installations will also be discussed, including laws mandating solar integration and the economic incentives available to maximize economic benefits.

Important Update to the Bylaws of AIA Brooklyn

The AIA Brooklyn Board of Directors is proposing the replacement of our current bylaws (adopted June 19, 2019).
The proposed bylaws were created using a template provided by AIA National to model our practices according to AIA National standards and incorporate policies consistent with how the Board has conducted Chapter business in recent years. The current bylaws have outdated language and policies and describe ways of conducting chapter business that predate the current digital age.
The proposed bylaws can be downloaded below. We ask that questions be sent to AIA Brooklyn board president Marshall Shuster, AIA at president@aiabrooklyn.org before Monday, March 17.
The new bylaws identify the governing body of the chapter as the “Board of Directors” and describe actions in ways the Board has conducted chapter business for the last three to fifteen years, including:
- choosing Directors by nomination (not also by election)
- removed language that referred to now-obsolete office procedures
- removed language that described rules and practices that have not been used
- updated rules for Board Meetings and General Meetings to current practices
- updated policies regarding reports, records and announcements to current practices
- maintained any rules/language that reflect current practices
AIA National staff members and the Chapter’s legal representative, Ray Mellon, reviewed and approved the proposed new bylaws.

March 19: Vote on the Proposed Bylaws
Only AIA Brooklyn members are eligible to cast a vote.
Members will have an opportunity to vote on the proposed bylaws at the AIA Brooklyn General Meeting on March 19, held in person at The Mercury Store in Gowanus. A Zoom link has been created for members who cannot attend in person. There will be a one-hour period when remote attendees may cast their vote.
