Would it surprise you to learn that our city endures the highest rate of suicide by jumping in the country? The availability of high places contributes to this grim statistic, but as architects, can we imagine ways to make these high places safer? History tells us that suicide often follows a brief impulse, and research shows us that small changes to the built environment can help prevent these tragic and irreversible outcomes while creating time for intervention and support.

Through a combination of presentation and moderated roundtable discussion, this evening will explore case studies where design interventions—such as raised railings and protective barriers—have improved safety outcomes without compromising usability or aesthetics. Panelists from architecture, public health, and suicide prevention will provide multiple perspectives on how these strategies can be responsibly integrated into practice.

See two of our scholarship past recipients that have attended the event (image on right).

Thursday, October 15, 2026 is an opportunity to take a day off from work, have fun on the golf course, and join us for dinner and cocktails after. This is always a great networking event which contributes to our scholarship funds, recognizing the efforts of High School and college students. Scholarship award recipients are planning to be in in attendance during our dinner ceremony.
